On the white a balloon and 17 aeroplanes brought down. The two small shields with the badges of the Artists Rifles and Hants Regiment denote service before entering the Flying Corps. 2. Lieutenant, 19th Hussars. Servedon H.M.S. Bellerophon. Shield divided between colours of 1915 ribbon and General Service. One blue service chevron, the cross of Ypres and an oak leaf for mention in dispatches. Ram's head, badge of the 4th Division. 3. Lieutenant, R.N., H.M.D. Tyrant. On left hand side on blue ground, rank, service chevrons and H. for Battle of Heligoland. Right hand side, colours of 1914-15 Star (and bar), General Service and Victory ribbons. An arrow with S at head for Senussi expedition. Over all a wound stripe and in base a roundel with a lymphad (ship) charged with the American stars and stripes, indicating leading destroyer escort to 1st American destroyers. 4. Major, R.A.O.C. Upper part (or chief) having the colours of the M.C. on the purple a Major's crown and four oak leaves for mention in dispatches, on the white the signs of the 5th (Australian) Division and the 1st (B.E.F.) Division. An embattled line, signifying the Army of Occupation, divides this from the lower half of the shield, which contains (1) the colours of the 1915 Star, bearing a Greek trireme for the Aegean Sea (2) General Service ribbon with five service chevrons, the top one terminating in a fleur de lys for France (3) Victory ribbon with a sphinx for Egypt. 5. Second Lieutenant, Black Watch. The shield is of the colours of the 1915 Star, having one service chevron with fleur de lys (for France) on a gold chevron. On a quarter the badge of the Public Schools Battalion (O.T C and in base a grenade, badge of Trench Mortar instructor Major, R.F.A. Upper part (or chief) having the colours of the M.C. On the white four blue chevrons and on the purple a Major's crown. Over all, two wound stripes. Below are the colours of the General Service and Victory ribbons, the latter having four crosses bendwise sinister for Salonica, and in base a fleur de lys for France. In the centre is the Cross of Jerusalem with two crossed keys commemorating the surrender of the keys to this officer. OOO
