LONDON COUNTY COMMITTEE.
The Informal Gatherings of the London County
Committee continue to attract, and the Committee
are grateful to all members and friends who not
only attend themselves, but bring the meetings
to the notice of others. These gatherings have
been of great service in fostering friendships made
in war time and also in forming new friendships
in times of peace, and go to prove that the League
is something more than a nameit is a bond of
brotherhood between us all. Various proposals
made to the London County Committee with
reference to the gatherings are receiving careful
consideration, and further criticisms or suggestions
which may help to forward the work are invited.
On June 3rd was held the last of the gatherings
for this session, but they will be renewed again
in the autumn. The Secretary will be glad to
receive the names and addresses of any friends
who may be interested, in order that a notice of
the meetings may be sent to them in due course.
The Committee ask members not only to come
themselves, but to forward an invitation to any
ex-Service friend who might be glad to renew
again an old friendship made in the Salient. The
list of fixtures arranged for the autumn will
appear in the next issue of The Ypres Times,
and while thanking all for past support,t the
Committee urge them to make the meetings a
greater success-in the future.
The London County Committee welcome Mr.
H. Carey, of 323, Sydenham Road, S.B.26, as
a Corresponding Member for the S.E. District,
and hope all members in that district will rally
round Mr. Carey and back him up in his efforts
on behalf of the League.
The next Annual Smoking Concert organised
by the London County Committee will be held
at the Great Hall, Cannon Street Hotel, on
Thursday, 21st October, when a grand programme
will be given. The Committee still have the
details of the concert under consideration, but
full particulars will be given in the next issue of The
Ypres Times. Please book the date and make
the event as widely known as possible in order
that we may have another great success as on
previous occasions.
London members, do not forget to back us up.
We need your help.
A pleasant informal Dinner took place at the
Trocadero Restaurant on April 8th, when the
Members of the London County Committee enter
tained their very efficient Honorary Secretary,
Mr. John Boughey.
Major Montague Jones was in the chair, and
after proposing The King," a case of pipes,
suitably engraved, was presented to Mr. Boughey,
who has served the Committee some four years.
A small souvenir was added for Mrs. Boughey.
The company afterwards attended the Tivoli
Theatre at the kind invitation of Captain Hyams.

MADRID BRANCH.
The Second Battle of Ypres was celebrated in
Madrid at the residence of Captain Burgess (late
Dorsetshire Regiment) by a Reunion of Members
of the Ypres League and their friends. While a
select programme of music and song was being
given in one room, in another, comfortably
arranged as a place of rest and refreshment, the
war was told all over again by ex-campaigners
now bronzed only by the Spanish sun.
Among those present were the British Am
bassador (Sir Horace Rumbold, Bart., G.C.M.G.,
M.V.O.). Lady Rumbold, Miss and Master
Rumbold, the Staff of the Embassy, the Rev.
and Mrs. Symes-Thompson and the British and
American Consuls (including the American Com
mercial Attaché and Mrs. Cunningham). The
American and French Members of the League were
also present.
