YPRES BRITISH SCHOOL.
It will interest our readers to know that one of the boys educated at the School,
Parnell," is getting on very well at the Army Technical School, at Chepstow. The
report on him is as follows
He is getting on very well with his general school work and trade. His conduct is
very satisfactory as is borne out by a clean conduct sheet. He was confirmed at the
School Confirmation last December, and has joined the Soldiers' Guild of St. George.
He manages to get to his home at Passchendaele during each of his holidays."
IT was explained in the January, 1932, edition of this Journal that the expenditure
on the production of the Ypres Times amounted to over £300 per annum, and that
the general depression of the past two years had created a problem in regard to
future editions of this illustrated journal, so with great reluctance, on October 31st,
1931, the Committee of the Ypres League decided to launch an S.O.S., to Life Members
of long standing, appealing for financial help with a view to establishing an "Ypres
Times" Maintenance Fund. Despite distressing times the appeal met with a very
encouraging response, for which we are extremely grateful, and the many kind letters
received clearly indicated the goodwill of the subscribers.
On January 1st, 1932, the Fund was opened to any of our members who might care
to contribute, with the result that the sum of £103 10s. 4d. has been added to the amount
already subscribed, of which £75 is allocated to meet expenses of the present issue.
We take this opportunity to place on record our most sincere and very hearty
thanks to our Life Members, Annual Subscribing Members, and friends who have so
generously responded to our appeal, and we also thank those who have been so kind as
to signify their good intentions to subscribe in the future. Letters received with
accompanying donations all stress on the popularity of the Journal and the great
desire for its continuance. One member expresses the view that the Ypres Times is
The only real link, in printed form, with the greater Past that remains." Another,
A shrine of memories."
We are exceedingly encouraged to know that the appeal is being received with such
fine spirit and we therefore feel that we can look forward with confidence to the steady
growth of the Fund.
All contributions, no matter how small, will be very gratefully received by the
Committee, and should be addressed to the Secretary, Ypres Times" Maintenance
Fund, 9, Baker Street, London, W.l.
