A GENERAL VIEW OF THE YPRES LEAGUE SERVICE HELD ON THE HORSE GUARDS' PARADE IN COMME
The service opened with the singing of the hymn "O Valiant Hearts" played
by the band of the 1st Surrey Rifles after which the Rev. P. B. Clayton addressed
tbe large gathering as follows
"Brethren, we are debtorsHere once again, a place of memories where some of us have
stood as the years have gone by in their procession since our dear friends departed this life.
Here once again are a few survivors, and there stand with them who were spared these things
spared because these same men we commemorate on this day had begun the great procession
of huge sacrifice which kept this country free.
"Brethren, we are debtors As we look back on this Ypres Commemoration we remember
that on this particular great day, Lord Plumer, against the doctor's orders came here, and we
now stand as we stand each year united by some lovely sacred memory.
"Brethren, we are debtors Whoever forgets, we will not forget. In actual truthwe know
it to be true. There is in one of these great buildings around us, a document which tells us
