Saturday, January 12th, marked the annual fixture of the Children's Christmas Party organised by the London County Committee. The large hall at the Westminster City School was placed at our disposal, by the kind permission of the Governors of the School. The hall had been tastefully decorated over-night by several energetic members, and in thanking them for their labours we do not forget the valuable help given by other staunch members who worked such long hours in preparing the Christmas tea feast. The music was again supplied most admirably by the Enfield College of Music, under the able direction of Mrs. Peabody. At 4 p.m. some 160 children sat down to enjoy a thoroughly good tea after which the room was cleared and all present assembled for a conjuring entertainment by Mr. Winchcombe, who delighted both children and adults alike with his amazingly clever tricks which provided an hour's continual laughter. The children then indulged in various games of musical chairs, bumps, etc. Father Christmas made his expected appear ance to the greeting of cheers loud and long, and taking charge of the party, expressed his pleasure at being able to attend and addressed a few appropriate words on the aims and objects of the Ypres League. A present was then distributed to each child from the well decorated and heavily-laden tree, and an exceedingly happy and successful evening terminated with the singing of Auld Lang Syne followed by The National Anthem. A further gift of fruit and sweets was presented to each youngster on leaving the hall. The London County Committee would like to tender very grateful thanks to all who so generously contributed to the great success of the function giving special mention to Mrs. Peabody and her Orchestra, to Mr. Winchcombe, the conjurer, to Mrs. Glover, Miss M. Riddelsdell, Miss N. Greaves and last, but not least, to Captain H. D. Peabody, D.C.M., for his excellent impersonation of Father Christmas.
