THE YPRES TIMES
165
It is a call to loyaltyloyalty to the King as the Empire's head, and loyalty towards
the Empire's highest and honest ideals of beneficent justice. And in its religious
characternever surely to be overlooked after the trials and triumphs of the past twenty-
five yearsit is a re-dedication and a re-consecration, an almost visible placing of the
King and his people into the very hands of Almighty God.
Homage to Our Patron-in-Chief.
In conclusion, as a member of the Ypres League, may I offer on behalf of all its
members, as well as those of the British Colony in Ypres itself, our homage and tribute
to King George, our gracious Patron-in-Chief, assuring him, as in the past, of our con
tinued and unwavering loyalty throughout the years that lie ahead Long may he
reign
His kingly crown has been beset with many a thorn, and his regal path has
bristled with many an obstacle but assuredly the thorns have been rendered less
acute and the path has been smoothed by the love and devotion his subjects in every
part of the Empire have at all times offered to him as their Sovereign and Protector.
