Maandag 1.1. kwam het voorloopig Comiteit
bijeen. Veel en nuttig werk werd afgelegd. Na
een verslag, gegeven door de Afgevaardigden,
over hunne onderhandelingen met het Stadsbe
stuur en de Commissie van Openbaren Onderstand,
waaruit bleek dat de Stad inschreef voor een ka
pitaal van 33 000 fr., dit voluit stortte door de
aanbrengst van een grond gelegen aan 't Zaalhof
ter grootte van 3300 m2, en dat de Commissie
van Openbaren Onderstand een som van 35.000
frank onderschreef, werd er overgegaan tot het
voorloopig opmaken der standregels. De bena
ming gegeven aan de samenwerkende vennoot
schap is Ons Onderdak Het minimum
kapitaal bedraagt 165 000 fr Hiervan moet dus 1/5
onderschreven worden door den Staat, 1/5 door
de Provincie, 1/5 is onderschreven door de Stad,
en de overige 2 5 zijn reeds onderschreven door
den Openbaren Onderstand voor 35.000 fr. en
door de aanwezige stichters, in deze mate, dat
enkel nog een som van 14 000 fr. moet onder
schreven worden. Alles doet verhopen dat deze
som spoedig zal gevonden worden. Een vraag om
onderschrijving door den Staat en Provincie werd
opgemaakt en verzonden, de voorloopige stand
regels werden gestuurd ter goedkeuring naar de
Nationale Maatschappij
Eens de afgevaardigden van Staat en Provincie
gekend en de goedkeuring der standregels beko
men zal er dus kunnen overgegaan worden tot het
definitief opmaken van de stichtingsakte en de
onderschrijving van het overige van het kapitaal
Stilaan geraakt dus alles in orde.
Annual Dinner of the Salient Loige
(R. A. O. B.) of Ypres
The Annual Dinner and Dance of 'th
Salient Lodge, of the Royal Antediluvian
Order of Buffaloes, was held at the Continen
tal Hotel, V/pres on Saturday last the 3rd of
November.
Among the company of about one hundred
and twenty members and guests present were
Monsieur H. Sobrythe Burgomaster of
Ypres, Major Phillips and Cap'ain Perrott of
the Imperial War Graves Commission M"
Milner, wife of the British Chaplain of Ypres

Sennett and Van der Ploeg all of Antwerp
an I ten members of the Lodge at Albert
(Som.ne) Frarce.
After Mr. E. E. Bennett, Chairman, had
proposed the Loyal Toasts, which were
received with acclamation, Monsieur Sobr>
rose to make what proved to be the speech of
the evening. Addressing the assembly in En
glish, a very graceful compliment indeed in
view of the fact that the great majority of
those present were British, he spoke ol the
pleasure thati t gave him to be present.
He expressed his happiness that British
sympathies were still with Ypres, the city
where from 1914 to 1918 the Armies ot the
British Empire met and withstood furious
attack, and where, perhaps the fate of Europe
was decided. He designated Ypres
The Holy Ground, which drank the blood,
and received the bodies of 200.OOO British Heroes
who gave their lives in its defence, for King and
Country, for Freedom and Justice
Monsieur Sobry referred to the Menin Ga'e
Memorial as a tribute to the fallen, as a
symbol of Peace, but also as an encourage
ment to the rebuilt Ypres as well, as a remin
der of its sufferings, and its supreme sacrifice.
He paid tribute to His Majesty the King of
England, the Prince of Wales, and to those
widows, orphans and relatives who came to
honour loved ones who died here, and
expressed the hope that such pious pilgrimages
should continue, and that the best of relations
between Belgium and Britain be maintained.
Tne Burgomaster concluded by wishing the
Salient Lodge and the Chairman, good luck
and prosperity, his speech ending in continued
and enthusiastic applause.
Other excellent speeches were made by
Messrs Chris Damm, Coleopy and Pitt, while
in replying for the ladies Madame Boyce,
most certainly added to the gaiety and
enjoyment of the evening, with the several
little digs, at men in general, some of them in
particular, and her clever defence of her sex.
Mention must be made of the excellent
arrangements made for the comfort of those
present by Monsieur Baete, the proprietor of
the Continental Hotel, and of the splendid
dinner provided by him. He and his staff are
to be congra'ulated.
At the conclusion of the dinner, a moment
before the departure of Monsieur Sobry, the
Burgomaster, the Belgian and British Natio
nal Anthems were played.

of anyone present, but that his presence had
been very welcome indeel, and that the
honour done, to the Salient Lodge, by his kind
acceptance of its invitation to be present at
the dinner, had been fully appreciat d.
Dancing commenced at the conclusion of
the dinner, and continued until the hour of one
a.m. when everyone went home, tired but
happy.
A memorable evening which will be long
remembered by all who were privileged to be
present.
Het nationaal 'erbond van Verminkte en
Invalide' sold ten van den oorlog (afdeeling
Yper) heeft de eer aan de bevolking kenbaar
te maken, dat het Verbond niets te zien heeft
met de personen die van huis tot huis zijn
geweest om kalmders 1929 aan te bieden en
te verkoopen
Dat die personen enkel verkoopen voor
eigen profijt en zij het recht niet hebben de
naam van N. V. I te gebruiken.
