DESCRIPTIVE NOTES
The Rose Window is Christ in Glory as expressed in the Te Deum; the sr%e,
zjo square feet is in heavy English glass of primary colours. Made in England by an Irish
artistMiss W. Geddes. Christ is seated on the Rainbow of Peaceat his feet the Earth.
The two Soldier Saints kneeling are only symbolic, ist Circle, 16 ApostlesSt. Peter at
top2nd Circle, Above 16 Prophetsbelow 16 Martyrs chosen by Belgium, and include St.
Albert of Louvain patron St. Boniface and St. Dymphna of English origin. Charles the Good,
Comte de Flandre and St. Godelieve of Ghistel. The Crests are of Belgium, the British Army,
the Royal Air Force and the )th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards.
The Tablet is of grey sycamore wood in natural grain is sealed behind plate glass with
the three crests engraved by sand blasting in colour and metal. The Crest of Belgium is carved
on the frame and is surrounded with the British Order of the Garter. The British Army Crest
was granted by H.M. King George V, shortly before his death. The architect was Mr. Roff
Marsh of the Territorial Army.
Other windows in St. Martin are three in the Celestory of Soldier Saints. St. Martin the
patron saint of the Cathedral is shewn with the Sun above and the Beggar atfoot. St. Maurice
the Roman Legion CaptainSt. Michael subduing the evil Spirit; they all have traditional tj
borders and are above the armorial shields of the donors. Made by Mr. Colpaert of Brussels
from designs of Mr. Easton of London.
The lower windows behind the Altar are of the \$th century style and by M. Ladon of
Ghent.
It is deeply regretted that Mr. Coomanthe Cathedral builder and architect, died before
these windows were completed and to which he gave every encouragement.
