EDITORIAL. Vol. I, No. 2. Published Quarterly. January, 1922. WITH the din and merriment of Christmas still about us, the thoughts of Old Comrades are likely at this season of the year to be reminiscent. As we gather round the dinner-table, or draw closer to the fire, it will be strange if we do not travel back in spirit to those old, unhappy, far-off days when Christmas was no Christmas and Peace and Goodwill sounded something of a mockery. We shall remember then those who stood shoulder to shoulder with us, whose bodies now lie mingled with the sacred soil of Flanders. It is good that we should thus remember. But our obligation does not cease there. While Christmas bells rang out and everywhere was joy and merriment, there were those of our Comrades who crouched shivering in city doorways or roamed the streets with hungry and, maybe, bitter hearts. We, whose lot has fallen in a fairer ground, must remember these too. They were our brothers they are our brothers still. Let us each do what little we can, in some concrete way, to help them. Christmas, for those who fought, must indeed have been full of memories. But Peace and Happinessin however disappointing a measureare ours again, and for that at least we may be thankful. That amazing light-heartedness which characterized the British soldier and made of him such tough material in adversity, will carry us through whatever trials lay ahead, and provoke a radiance in the blackest places. The Spirit of Comrade ship is more than ever necessary now, and to Members of the Ypres League belongs the privilege of preserving and, indeed, spreading that spirit in a practical way. Let us all hold together. But an end to sermon-makingand the heartiest good wishes to every Member for 1922. We looks towards yer. Likewise we bows." And .now another toast A jolly good year for the League. May its shadow never grow less Au contraire, as the tactful Frenchman said on the Channel steamer when the steward asked him if he had dined
