A Government Committee of Enquiry
"NEW DESOUTTER" LIGHT METAL LEG-
PEDESTROS LIMITED,
51, MARGARET STREET. OXFORD CIRCUS, LONDON, W.I.
AND THE
(with light Willow Socket).
On July 5th, 1921, His Majesty's Minister of Pensions appointed a Committee of Enquiry
on Artificial Limbs to consider, inter alia, the comparative advantages of the Metal leg
and the wooden leg.
This Committee, in its Report, refers to the fact that the Desoutter metal limbs,
owing to their-high cost and the difficulty of supplying in quantity, were only supplied
in exceptional and rare instances:"
After holding ten meetings and hearing the evidence of Surgeons, Limbless Officers
and Men, the Minister's Technical Advisers, Limb-makers and other experts, the first
recommendation of the Committee of Enquiry was as follows .-A,-
The Desoutter,' and/or other approved light metal limbs, should
be placed upon the Consolidated List, and should be made available
for all new cases in which the surgeon recommends them on surgical
or other grounds instead of the standard pattern wooden leg."
Every limbless ex-Service man should read the Report of this Government Committee
of Enquiry. Its references to the Desoutter leg are sufficient indication of the Com
mittee's considered opinion of the merits of the New Desoutter Light Metal Leg, with
light willow bucket, in comparison with what the Committee terms the heavy or out-of-
date wooden limb.
The New Desoutter light metal leg with light willow, certalmid, or leather socket,
can now be supplied, and all officers and men desiring these legs will be able to obtain
them at any limb-fitting centre in Great Britain or Ireland.
The happy combination of the Desoutter light metal leg with light willow socket,
-\vas bound, ultimately, to more than justify the extra initial expense involved in its supply
to disabled men, and the decision of the Ministry of Pensions now to grant this limb,
notwithstanding its high cost, is the natural outcome of its outstanding advantages over
the present heavy and cumbersome wooden limb.
By arrangement with Messrs. Desoutter Bros., Ltd., Pedestros Limited, the well-
known artificial limb fitters, have been appointed the sole licensees and fitting agents for
the supply of the New Desoutter" light metal leg at all Ministry of Pensions limb-fitting
centres in Great Britain and Ireland.
Full information and copies of the Report of the Committee of Enquiry will be sent
on request.
