EDITORIAL. IMES THE JOURNAL OF THE YPRES LEAGUE. Vol. I, No. 3. Published Quarterly. April, 1022 NUMBER Three of the Ypres Times comes with spring and memories of the Second Battle. Looking back at that bloody business we may perhaps find it in our hearts to be thankful, despite the hard times that have followed. It may have a moral for us, a moral of dogged deter mination in the face of tremendous odds. To-day, everywhere men are workless. Let them hold on, in the words of Kipling, when there is nothing in them (literally nothing in them, maybe), except the will which says to them Holdon.' Some of the local branches of the Ypres League are feeling the draught badly. May we tender to them our sincerest sympathy and say, very humbly, Hold on never despair. The enemy, hard times, is going to be defeated That much we greatly wanted to say, and having said it we will not dwell further on a depressing subject. An Editorial is much like an after-dinner speech nobody wants to make it, nobody wants to listen to it, and yet it is a form that convention bids us observe. Indeed, editorials are worse than speeches, for in the case of speeches the listeners have at least had a feast to fortify them, while an Editorial precedes the feast and keeps all the hungry readers waiting. Therefore, the shorter the better. For what follows is, we hope, a feast, and one that we humbly trust will be palatable to all. Famous authors and artists have been extraordinarily good in sending us contributions, and we should like to take this oppor tunity of thanking them. We received from Members so many kind letters of approval of our last number in answer to our request for expressions of opinion, that we have been encouraged in this issue to follow on the same course. Some said they could do with still more humour," so this time we have a strong section of drawings by leading humorous artists, and some witty articles. Readers will also find several items of one sort and another contributed by ex-soldiers. We are very grateful for the expressions of opinion, good or bad it encourages us and conveys a sense of comradeshipall working together, hand in hand. May we hope that everyone will continue to express his opinion A HAPPY EASTER TO ALL MEMBERS
