EDITORIAL. J> d3l 3^- IMES THE JOURNAL OF THE YPRES LEAGUE. Vol. I, No. 4. Published Quarterly. July, 1922. WE propose this time to talk about ourselves. Thanks to the collabora tion of all Members of the League, the Ypres Times is now firmly established andas we announce elsewhere in "this issueis actually contemplating a monthly appearance. Whether it actually does appear monthly depends in great measure, as we explain, upon the wishes of its readers, who must decide for themselves whether or not a copy of the Ypres Times once a month instead of merely once a quarter is worth the small extra outlay which the proposal involves. We do not ourselves presume to offer an opinion on the subject But, whatever the outcome of the proposal, it may be appropriate at this stage to consider the position and the policy of this journal and to see how we stand. Since we began the publication of the Ypres Times we have kept a definite object in view, and we have been confirmed in the Tightness of that object by the general ex pressions of approval which, we are glad to say, have attended our efforts. Our object has been to make the organ of the Ypres League a genuine organ of League opinion. We have endeavoured to produce a paper that is not a dull official record of facts and fixtures, but a live paper filled with material of interest to all sorts and conditions of members and, in great measure, written by members themselves. In a word, we have tried to let the paper be directed by the will of the majority. Now we are convinced that this is the proper way, indeed, the only way, to make the Ypres Times worth while. And we can see no reason why, run in this manner, it should not have a tremendous future. It can become not only a medium of League news and League opinion not only a medium of reminiscence, and of intercommunication between League Members but it can also be a medium of League usefulness. For if there is one thing certain in this world it is that nothing can succeed for long which is not in some way useful. The world is none too happy a place to-day tasks
