The first real success to be gained against hostile airships occurred on June 7, 1915, when Flight Sub-Lieutenant Warneford, R.N.A.S., attacked a Zeppelin in mid-air over Ghent, while another pilot of the R.N.A.S. poldenhoek CHATEAU IN OCTOBER, 1917. bombed an airship in its shed in the neighbourhood of Brussels which resulted in its com plete destruction. Lieutenant Warneford left his aerodrome at Furnes at i a.m. with orders to look for Zeppelins and to attack Berchem St. Agathe airship sheds with six 20-lb. bombs.
