17th. By an oversight this was omitted from the
last issue.
The party was organised by the Chairman,
Capt. C. Alliston, and Major Ramsdale, and
generously supported by Jack Mathews, the Hon.
Secretary of the St. Pancras Branch of the British
Legion. Some 200 children enjoyed a substantial
tea, with Christmas tree and crackers, followed by
a splendid entertainment. The Mayor of St. Pan
cras attended in his robes, supported by the
Mayoress and was loudly cheered by the children.
The Chairman wishes to express the thanks of
•his branch to the ladies and gentlemen who so
generously subscribed upwards of £25, and to
Messrs. The Aerated Bread Company, Bowman
Bros., Buzzards Ltd., and Marshall Roberts, Ltd.,
for toys, sweets, etc. Unfortunately there is still
a deficit of some pounds should any friends of the
N.W. District wish to subscribe.
The N.W. Branch has now a strong committee
and is rapidly developing, helping and being
helped by the British Legion in amicable co-opera-
Xion.
The Hon. Secretary of the East London Branch
is extremely anxious to hear from all his members
with a view to filling vacancies in his sub-districts.
E.2, E.3, E.4, E.10, E.13, E.14, E.15 postal
districts require a representative. It is hoped that
new members will join up now that a London
County Branch has been forfned.
Liverpool Branch.The first Annual General
Meeting was held at the Stork Hotel, Liverpool,
on Friday, May 11th, 1923. Chairman, Capt.
E. H. G. Roberts (in the absence of Lieut. Col.
Luther Watts, who was ill).
It was decided to have a mixed (ladies and
gentlemen) dinner on October 31st (Ypres Day)
in Liverpool. The dinner to be made an annual
event. Also to have an annual church parade in
Liverpool on Lord Mayor's Sunday, members to
fall in and march to church.
It was proposed and carried that Lieut.-Col.
Luther Watts, O.B.E., V.D., and Mr. L. N.
Gerrard be Chairman and Hon. Secretary. The
remaining members elected to the Committee to
act for 1923 were
Lieut.-Col. E. P. Johnson,
Major Earle.
Mr. J. H. Lyons,
Mr. C. H. Wilson,
and Mr. Cliffe promised to act as Auditor.
A member suggested that the committee should
discover which members are disabled so that assist
ance can be afforded them at social functions.
For the Annual Dinner, October 31st, Ypres
Day. members are requested to notify the Hon.
Secretary the number of tickets required. The
cost will probably be in the region of 6/- to 9/-
per person, but this will depend on the support
received. Early response is desired so that neces
sary arrangements may be made. Details will be
announced in the next issue of the Ypres Times
or by circular. Will those members who intend
to take part in the Church Parade kindly notify
the Hon. Secretary before September next.
As far as records show there are only 130 mem
bers of the League in Liverpool and district. This
is a very poor result. Members are urged to try
and bring in new members. Particulars will
gladly be furnished by the Hon. Secretary upon
application.
Through the generosity of a Liverpool member
of the League, C. V. Anthony, Esq., committee
meetings will be held at 12a, Exchange Buildings,
Liverpool.
Londonderry.Under the chairmanship of A.
Victor Hastings, Esq., of Seymour House, Caw,
Londonderry, interest in Ulster in the Ypres
League is increasing by leaps and bounds. A
strong committee is being formed.
Bournemouth. The first meeting was held in
May at St. Peter's Hall. A Chairman was ap
pointed and a committee formed. It was decided
to use every endeavour to increase membership
and make the local branch a means of pleasant
re-unions and club meetings for those who join.
Southend.A successful dance, both from the
entertainment and financial point of view, was held
on the 30th April, and is only one of the many
efforts which the Chairman, G. Griffin Smith, Esq.,
is making to collect sufficient funds for the club
house which the Branch has determined to acquire.
This meeting place is to be called the Ypres
League Southend and District Branch Club.

Devonport. This Branch was represented at the
unveiling of the Plymouth War Memorial recently
on May 19th, when a wreath was placed at the
foot of the memorial.
At a meeting held in May, with Col. A. B.
Soltow in the chair, the hope was expressed that
before long the Branch would increase in strength
sufficiently for a Plymouth Pilgrimage to be made
to the scene of some of the severest fighting on
the whole of the British Front. Col. Soltow
pointed out that the object of the Branch was not
to obtain social advantage or pecuniary benefit for
its members, but to commemorate the wonderful
fighting the British Army put up in the Salient.
Capt. H. G. Slight has accepted the duties of
Deputy-Chairman and has promised to devote his
time to the furtherance of the objects of the
League.
