THE YPRES LEAGUE. 24+ The Ypres Times. LEST WE FORGET. The founders of the League met on September 28th, 1920, to decide upon certain aims which they should support in commemocation of those who defended the Salient for four years at a cost of a quarter of a million of British lives. During more than two years considerable progress has been made and now, in the light of past experience, a strong committee has been formed. The Ypres League is being re constituted as an Association to carry out the following objects, which its associates are determined to do with the utmost energy: Objects. (A) Comradeship and re-union. (B) To assist as may be thought fit anj' British ex-soldiers, ex-sailors, ex-airmen, or their dependents. (C) To preserve at Ypres a Roll cf the honoured Dead and Missing. (D) To compile charts of the Battlefield. (E) To secure the erection of an outstanding memorial. (F) To establish cordial relations with the dwellers on the battlefield of Ypres. (G) To furnish information of historic sites and permanently mark these sites. (H) To establish and endow a pilgrimage centre at Ypres. (I) To diffuse information amongst members on all matters connected with battle fields and of those who fought in the Salient. (J) To establish, maintain, regulate, and con trol, branches all over the world. (K) To arrange special facilities for travel, transport, and comfort of members. (L) To place its resources at the service of Government Departments, private societies, or persons engaged in like enterprises and to co-operate with any other association whose objects are wholly or in part similar to those of the Association. The Ypres League is taking steps to carry out all these objects so far as its funds permit. A temporary Pilgrimage Centre with rest room and a limited number of bedrooms will be opened shortly at Ypres. Parties are visiting cemeteries in rapidly increasing numbers under the care of the League. The successful combined effort of the Ypres League and St. Barnabas has been ensured in so far as pilgrims are concerned. All pilgrims wiil meet with homely and sympathetic treat ment. It has been found that pilgrims as a rule prefer to go in small parties. The present policy of the League is, therefore, to take out small parties of pilgrims rather than to embark on large pilgrimages and re-unions. This is more convenient to pilgrims and does not force them to go at a date unsuitable to their plans. Records are being collected at the Centre. A London County Branch is being created. County and Town Branches are being re organised, and in doing so care is being taken that these Branches will co-ordinate with Toe H and the British Legion wherever their paths lead in the same directions, for assistance, re-union, and the promotion of comradeship. The League is preparing itself to take over responsibility more and more in the great w ork now being done by Government Departments, which it is recognised must sooner or later be handed over to what may be destined to be the only permanent War Association remaining.
