The following letters speak for themselves. We hope that a great increase in our Australian membership will result from this effort St. James's Palace, S.W. 23rd July, 1924. My Dear Lord Ypres,General Talbot Hobbs has written me a letter, a copy of which I enclose. I have shown this letter to the Prince of Wales, who entirely approves of a branch of the Ypres League being founded in Western Australia, or in any other State of Australia if it is found possible to do so. I am replying to General Hobbs to say that I am writing to you in the above terms. Believe me, Yours very sincerely, Lionel Halsey. Field-Marshal the Right Hon'ble The Earl of Ypres, K.P., G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., K.C.M.G. 36, Eaton Place. (Copy.) Campden House Chambers, Sheffield Terrace, Kensington, W. 21st July, 1924. Dear Sir Lionel Halsey,At a 'meeting I had some little time ago with Generals Pulteney, Cunliffe Owen and other gentlemen interested in the Ypres League, and at which, I should mention, Lord Plumer was also present, a proposal to form a branch of the League in Australia was discussed, and I undertook, if authority was granted, to do my best on my return to Australia to bring it about, though T pointed out I could not personally do very much in any other State other than Western Australia where I live. The meeting was of the opinion that I should see what could be done. I am both willing and desirous of trying to found a branch in Western Australia if His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, Patron of the League, approves. I should therefore be glad if you could approach His Royal Highness and ask him if he could (under the conditions mentioned in this letter)approve of a branch being founded in Western Australia, or any other State in Australia if it is found possible to do so. In making this request I think it only right to mention that though I personally am much im pressed with the objects of the League and entirely in sympathy, I am not insensible to the fact that owing to several other organisations of a somewhat similar nature already in existence in Australia there may be some difficulty and it may take some little time to accomplish the object in view. Yours sincerely, (Signed) JTalbot Hobbs, M.G. SHEFFIELD AND DISTRICT BRANCH NEWS. About thirteen members of the Branch took advantage of the cheap trip to Ypres for the August 4th celebrations. All had a good time, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
