who then led the procession on foot, accompanied by the burgomaster and members of
•the municipal council. All Ypres had turned out to witness the march past and the
Grande Place was packed with interested spectators, some two thousand having come in
from Ostend and other neighbouring towns that morning. Lord Ypres made a touching
and soldierly oration before placing the wreath on the ruins of the Cloth Hall, and members
were visibly moved. General Sir William Pulteney also addressed the gathering, alluding
to the great help given by the Hon. Alice Douglas Pennant and others to the work of the
League. General Préaux, in a graceful speech, welcomed the League and eulogised the

the heads of the pilgrimage to the town hall, where a vin d'honneur was drunk and after
wards a visit was paid to the Menin Gate memorial, whose foundations, after many
difficulties, now happily surmounted, have been firmly laid. So ended a memorable day
lest we forget
Tuesday, August the 5th, was spent in quietly travelling back to England, where
members dispersed to their various homes, having spent an interesting and instructive
time among memories of the Great War in the Ypres Salient

and its costly consequences of an European War which the people of your Majesty's Empire willingly
shouldered the immense burden of for the cause of Right this day ten years ago.
They tender their homage to your Majesty their Patron-in-Chief and express the hope that their
