The Ypres Times. 187 Scunthorpe. At Scunthorpe, through the able organisation of Mr. Holmes, our Corresponding Member, the sales effected were excellent, and were chiefly due to the influence of and assistance given, him by Mr. Watson, of the Pavilion Cinema, and our energetic sellers, Messrs. Cottingham, Wall er, P. Evisson, H. Dean and C. Poklington. Norwich. We had the very great advantage of having Mr. F. H. Cooper (photo inset), of Norwich, Chairman of the Eastern Counties of the C.E.A., on our Appeal Committee. Mr. Cooper organised the sale of the song of the Ypres League in all the Cinemas in Norwich. Mr. Cooper is so well Inown that it is almost superfluous to say that his organisation in Norwich of Ypres Day was a great success. He had the cordial assistance of the Cinema proprietors and Managers and we most heartily thank them and him for what they did for our Society. We have received a very handsome cheque from Mr. Cooper, who defrayed all the expenses. Swindon. We had a most pleasant surprise from Swindon. Mr. George Benson (photo inset), the well known artiste, arranged with Mr. Clifford Cunningham, properietor of the Rink Cinema, to sing and sell our song there. It is hardly necessary for us to say that the song was beautifully sung as Mr. Benson is so well known to the public in various halls and theatres. Mr. Cunningham was most interested in our cause, which was only natural as his two sons served throughout the M ar. He is well known for his generous support of all charity organisations. The sales effected by Mr. Benson at the Rink Cinema were very large, over i.,ooo copies being sold. Mr. Cunningham himself took a great deal of trouble in the matter, and the entire success of our day is due to these gentlemen. A most excellent article appeared in the local paper on the aims and objects of the League. Brighton. At the Regent, Brighton, the League had a very great friend in Mr. Ainsworth. His attendants worked most energetically, and they not only sold out every song that we sent them, but added a subscription to the amount sent. We should like most cordially to thank these patriotic ladies and gentlemen and also Mr. Ainsworth for the personal trouble he took in the matter. Guildford.Mrs. Bowley organised at Guildford, and we were astonished by the handsome cheque sent by her. This was due not onlv to Mrs. Bowley's excellent organisation, tut also to the valuable help she received from Madame Watts, Miss Bryett and Mr. Stuart Shepherd, who sang our song at every performance in three cinemas the able speeches made by Mr. C. M. Tucker and Mr. John Gardiner at various cinemas the selling of the songs by Mr. and Mrs. Martin and Miss Hallettand the general help given by Miss Bowley. We feel that at Guildford the public response has been indeed splendid and we hope that next year, if we arrange a similar Ypres Day, the membership in Guildford will have been so much increased that Mrs. Bowley will receive still greater support. Reading.Mr. Illsby, of Reading, who only took up the duties of Corresponding Member, just before MR. GEORGE BENSON. MR. F.^H. COOPER.
