Organiser Mrs. Charles Edwards. YPRES DAY - OCTOBER 31st. H.R.H. Princess Beatrice again graciously consented to be Chairman of the Ypres League Appeal Committee. The Committee undertook the organisation of the sale of the new march song Wipers in the Cinemas throughout London and the Provinces. The lyric Wipers was selected, from hundreds of lyrics submitted/by the judges, Kathleen, Viscountess Falmouth, General Sir William Pulteney, and the Editor of Popular Music Weekly. They are to be congratulated on having secured such an excellent and popular song. The music is by the famous composer, Mr. Max Darewski. The Appeal Committee have been selling the song with great success in a number of Cinemas and are continuing to do so in connection with the film Wipers." The organisation is generally finished by October 31st, but this year, owing to the fact that the film Wipers is being shown throughout England, we are having a very extended appeal, as the Cinemas are only too pleased to sell our song during the time the film is being displayed. Therefore we think it advisable that- instead of writing an article on the Appeal Committee's efforts in the Cinemas for the January issue of The Ypres Times, to publish an account in the spring in a special supplement which will afterwards be included in Ihe Ypres League. We would like to point out to those interested in the League that the song has been broadcast and it is recorded on five gramophone companies, and is proving a popular number. Every song sold in the shops carries a royalty for the League and we receive handsome royalties on the gramophone records.
