INFORMAL QATHERINGS.
The London County Committee are very glad
to announce that the attendances at these gather
ings have greatly increased, and they extend to
all their thanks for the kind co-operation which
has helped to achieve this success.
These gatherings take place once a month and
the invitation is extended to all members and
friends of the League. They are quite of an
informal nature and friends meet to have a chat
again over old times spent together, and pass an
hour or two with each other once more. The
meetings are appreciated, as is evident from the
kind expressions which have been received by
the Committee, and it is the earnest wish of all
that many more.members will come along.
There must be many ex-Service men who wish
for an opportunity just to meet some friend again
and have a chat. Why not arrange to meet
again at one of these gatherings
The following dates have been booked for the
meetings;.Thursday, 13th January, 1927;
Thursday, 3rd February, 1927 and Thursday,
3rd March, 1927 at the George Hotel, 213,
Strand, W.C. (entrance through Devereux Court),
opposite Law Courts.
The Committee suggest that members send
along a card to some friend telling him of the
gatherings and arranging to meet him at the George
Hotel on one of these dates, or the Hon. Secretary
of the London County Committee will be happy to
forward an invitation on being supplied with the
name and address. All are urged to make the
meetings as widely known as possible amongst
friends and ex-Service men. Ladies are also
cordially invited to be present.
Any criticisms or suggestions as to the nature of
these gatherings will be gladly received and duly-
considered by the Committee.
The Committee are very grateful to Mrs.
Edwards, Miss Muir and Captain Peabody,
d.C.M., for their kind gifts, which helped to
defray part of the cost of some of the past
gatherings.
The gatherings are held from 6.30 p.m. to
9.15 p.m., and it is hoped that we shall have a
greatly increased attendance in the New Year.
CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY.
On Saturday, 15th January, 1927, in the
Gymnasium of the Mary Ward Settlement at
36, Tavistock Place, Tavistock Square, W.C.I
(which has been kindly lent by the Settlement
Council), an event of great importance will take
place. On that day will be held the Third Annual
Children's Christmas Party, which has been
organised by the London County Committee.
The numbers attending have increased year
by year, and this year it is anticipated we shall
have a larger audience still of the younger genera
tion who, we hope, will come forward in a few
years' time and carry on the work of the League.
The children will assemble not later than 4 p.m.
and the party is open to members of the Junior
Division free, for which invitations have already
been sent a limited number of friends will be
admitted at the charge of 6d. each, and those
intending to be present should apply for tickets not
later than the 12th of January in order that
arrangements may be made in good time.
A Christmas tree will be provided and the
London County Committee appeals very earnestly
for gifts or donations to help defray the cost of
the Party, and these mil be very gratefully
received by the Hon. Secretary, London County
Committee, Ypres League, at 9, Baker Street,
W.l.
The Party is keenly looked forward to by all
the children and it is hoped that this year all
attending will again spend a happy time together.
The Committee trust that members will interest
themselves in this endeavour, which has for its
particular object the strengthening of the Junior
Division of the League. The subscription for the
Junior Division is Is. per annum, and any new
members will be gladly welcomed by the League.
THE POPLAR TOWN HALL DANCE.
It is the earnest wish of the London County
Committee that members and friends will heartily
support the Dance which is being held at the
Poplar Town Hall on Thursday, the 20th J anuary,
1927, at 7.30 p.m. As this is the first Dance
which has been held under the auspices of the
Committee at Poplar, it is hoped that the evening
will be a great success from the members' attend
ance point of view.
In organising such an event there is a good deal
of spade work which has to be done previous
to the evening, and it will be a great encourage
ment if we can fill the Town Hall, Poplar, with
members and friends who will come along and
support us. You may say you cannot dance,
but we should, however, like to see you also, as
your presence will show that you are interested
and eager to help forward the success of the
evening.
The Committee hope, therefore, that you will
be present on 20th January, and also trust you
will advertise the dance as widely as possible in
order to interest others to come along.
The London County Committee wish to express
their grateful thanks to Mr. L. A. Weller, who has
undertaken and made all the preparations for the
evening, and has spared no efforts for the good
of the cause, and so for all Mr. Weller's endeavours
may we have a full house at Poplar Town
Hall. Thanks are also due to Mr. C. Schlienger
for his kind gift for the dance.
Tickets may be obtained (price Is. 6d. each)
from Mr. L. A. Weller, 30, Blair Street, Poplar,
E.14, or from the Hon. Secretary, London County
Committee, Ypres League, 9, Baker Street, W.l.
The London County Committee are very grate
ful to Mr. S. J ones, an active London member, who
has kindly presented a framed gift of poppies and
cornflowers, which he picked at Dickebusch in
1917. This gift will be sold later on behalf of
the London County Committee Funds, and it is
hoped that the sale will realise a large amount.
