The Foundation Stones of the Church of St. George and of the Memorial School at Ypres were laid by Field Marshal The Lord Plumer, G.C.B., G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., G.B.E., D.C.L., L.LI)., on the afternoon of Sunday, July 24th, a few hours after the unveiling and dedication of the Menin Gate. A procession of Bishops and Clergy was formed at the British Club and wound its way to the chosen site in Rue d'Elverdinghe, near the Grand' Place. The three Bishops, with Chaplains in attendance, were the Bishop of Fulham (Dr. Batty), whose diocese is Northern and Central Europe Bishop Bury, his predecessor in this office, now Assistant Bishop of London, and on this occasion the representative of the Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop Gwynne, formerly Deputy Chaplain- General, who had officiated in the morning at the Menin Gate. Dr. Jarvis, Chaplain- General to the Forces, had come officially to represent the War Office and there were also present the Chaplain-in-Chief of the Royal Air Force (Rev. R. E. V. Hanson), and the Very Rev. J. M. Simms, C.B., C.M.G., D.D., K.H.C., M.P., formerly Principal Chaplain (non Church of England) of the British Armies in France and Belgium.
