The great success of The Immortal Salient,
now in its fourth edition, has given en
couragement for the compilation of this
"book, which is a further development of the
same subject. But it is something more, in
that it is really the memorial volume long
contemplated by the Ypres League. We
are given firstly a short, accurate, and
graphic account of the fighting in the
Salient from 1914 to 1918. All the historic
places are then described in alphabetical
order, so that every part of the holy
ground of British armsis made vivid
with accounts of notable events or stirring
deeds of valour connected with them. These
accounts are collected from many sources,
including unpublished regimental records
and personal reminiscences. It is a unique
record of the Salient, and its appeal will
be large, as there are but few who served
in France who have no stirring memories
of Ypres.
PRESS NOTICES.

A welcome supplement to the same author's
The Immortal Salient, already in its fourth
edition. In the present volume the desperate
fighting that took place to hold that historic
position and save the Channel ports is described
in detail with vivid dramatic force, it is an
inspiring book which cannot fail to give every
Englishman a thrill of pride in the reading of it.

The authors of a new and moving account of
the noble deeds of the British Army are already
well known to a wide public by their work The
Immortal Salient, which is now in its fourth
edition. The two books are indispensable guides
to the fighting and the terrain on which it took
place, prepared with all imaginable care, with the
fullest information, and written in the right
spirit."

The method of the book is completely success
ful. It makes a record of the Salient which has a
wide and glorious appeal, and it is embellished by
perfect reproductions of three famous pictures.
The book is a necessity on every pilgrimage to
Ypres. There is no quoting from these shin
ing stories. But the book gleams of greatness
on every page, it is a paramount record."
Extract from Daily Express.
Fifty pages are given to a general
sketch of the entire struggle for the Salienta
story that may rank in history with the siege of
Troyand then come 200 pages of detailed inci
dents connected with every named spot in the
Salient. No such record has been made
before, and it will probably be treasured by those
who read it like a family Bible or an old copy of
Homer."
