Free Pilgrimage to the Menin Gate and Tyne Cot Memorials. THE YPRES TIMES 87 June 6th, 1928. Dear Sir, My Committee are most anxious that the work of the Ripon branch of the Ypres League in our cause should be fully acknowledged. Below is a list of what the members are undertaking, and I hope that you will be able to express through your columns the extreme gratitude of the Committee for their devoted work. Secretary, Ypres Memorial Church Fund. Ypres League, 9, Baker Street, W.i. ON June 30th the League is defraying the total cost of a Pilgrimage to Ypres, comprising 97 individuals from England, Scotland and Wales. The great majority of these are poor mothers and wives whose sons and husbands are among the missing" who fell in the Salient and whose names are inscribed on the Menin Gate and Tyne Cot Memorials. It is hoped that this pilgrimage may be a source of comfort and consolation to these bereaved and sorrowing people, who have waited in vain for news of the resting-places of their loved ones. The money expended is part of the funds raised through Field-Marshal Lord Plumer's appeal in July, 1927, for the purpose of sending out indigent relatives of the "missing" to witness the unveiling ceremony of the Menin Gate Memorial. The pilgrimage, conducted by the secretary, will remain at Ypres for two nights, returning on July 2nd. Services, at which the Rev. G. R. Milner, M.A., the newly-appointed resident chaplain, will officiate, will be held for the pilgrims on Sunday morning, July 1st, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
