THE YPRES TIMES
INFORMAL GATHERINGS.
The sub-committee appointed by the London
County Committee met during the vacation,
when they went carefully into the question of
the Informal Gatherings with a view to making
them of greater interest. This it is hoped to
achieve with the help of the many suggestions
submitted.
The Gatherings in the next quarter will be
held on Thursday, October 4th, Thursday,
November 8th, and Thursday, December 6th,
at the George Hotel, 213, Strand, W.C.2, from
7 to 10 p.m. On October 4th Mrs. Heap has
kindly undertaken to give us an evening's
entertainmenton November 8th Mr. Hubbart
and some of his friends will be responsible
while on December 6th we are looking forward
to a visit from our Toe H friends, whose very
enjoyable evening on a former occasion is still
a pleasant memory.
The Committee express their thanks to all
members for their kind support last season and
are very glad to note the increased attendance
during the past year this happy state of things
they trust will continue. Members are asked to
interest others in the work of the League and
to bring them to the Gatherings, where a cordial
welcome awaits them. The Gatherings are
quite informal we meet just to spend an
evening in each other's company and discuss
old times in the Salient. The Secretary will be
pleased to send an invitation to any friend on
being furnished with the name and address.
The London County Committee will be glad
to consider suggestions in connection with these
Gatherings, which should be sent to the Hon.
Secretary, London County Committee, 9, Baker
Street, W.i.
At the Gathering to be held on Thursday,
January 3rd, 1929, the special feature will be
a Camp Fire Evening," particulars of which
will be given in due course.
The Sixth Annual Reunion Smoking Concert
will be held at the Caxton Hall, Victoria Street,
London, S.W. 1, on Thursday, October 18th, at
7.30 p.m.
The Reunion this year promises to be one of
the most successful ever held, for the Committee
are pleased to announce that Field-Marshal the
Lord Plumer, G.C.B., G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O.,
G.B.E., D.C.L., LL.D. (President of the League),
has kindly consented to take the chair. Among
the guests of the evening will be His Excellency
the Belgian AmbassadorField-Marshal Sir
Claud W. Jacob, G.C.B., K.C.S.I., K.C.M.G.
General M. Desprès, K.C.V.O., C.B., Military
Attaché, French Embassy Colonel H. Nerincx,
Military Attaché, Belgium Embassy and Alder
man Sir Charles C. Wakefield, Bart., C.B.E.
The organization of the entertainment has
entailed a great deal of spade-work, and the
Committee appeal to members to contribute
their share by providing a packed hall on
October 18th. Not only do they hope that
you will be present, but that you will also be
accompanied by a friend, someone, it may be,
who was with you in the Salient and who would
welcome this opportunity to renew old friend
ship. May we ask you to mention the concert
in your circle and to urge your friends to attend.
An excellent programme has been arranged by
Mr. P. Hubbart. The artistes, who include
Madame Gioconda Papacini, Miss Josephine
Hurd, L.R.A.M., A.R.C.M., Mr. Jack Bradshaw
and Miss Bessy Weldon, Mr. Richard Arthur,
Miss Nan Calnan and Mr. P. Hubbart, are
sufficient guarantee for an enjoyable reunion.
Community singing of old wartime choruses
will, as on former occasions, again be a feature
of the evening, and under the able conductor-
ship of Mr. Charles Mann we hope to make our
selves heard beyond the walls of Caxton Hall
The Committee are very grateful to the Daily
Express," who have generously provided a
supply of song sheets.
As a large demand for seats is anticipated
members are asked to apply for tickets as early
as possible. Prices5s., 2s. 6d., and is.

accompanied by remittance, should be sent to
the Hon. Secretary, London County Committee,

PILGRIMAGE TO YPRES.
It is proposed that a trip to Ypres be organized
by the London County Committee Branch
during one of the holidays in 1929 (possibly
Whitsuntide).
In order that the greatest number may avail
themselves of the facilities offered, the more
expensive hotels will be avoided and in this way
it is hoped to issue inclusive tickets at a lower
price than at present obtainable. It is also
proposed, where more convenient, to allow
members to pay by instalments.
All interested are invited to forward their
names and addresses to the Hon. Secretary,
London County Committee, c/o The Ypres
League, 9, Baker Street, London, W.i, who will
send particulars later when the subject is
definitely Settled.
