STUART OSWALD, M.C., WEEK-END FOUR-DAY TRIP THE YPRES TIMES 221 After lying for twelve years in the cellar of a New Cross house, a 200-year-old bell is being restored to the church in Belgium from which it was taken during the war. During the war a resident of New Cross, London, entertained a Canadian soldier whenever he came on leave. After one of these visits, in 1917, the soldier left behind him a parcel to be sent on to an address in Canada which he would give later. For twelve years the parcel remained in the cellar of the house at New Cross, but no address came, and a few weeks ago it was learned that the Canadian was dead. The parcel was unwrapped, and inside was found the bell, weighing over 56 lb.Yorkshire Herald. THE YPRES LEAGUE HEADQUARTERS AT YPRES.
