The pilgrims were deeply touched by the reverently kept cemeteries, with their
masses of flowers. Indeed, one mother remarked that although she had brought
a wreath, she felt ashamed to place it among so many beautiful flowers which were
growing on the grave of her son. Nobody can realize, without making a personal
visit to the cemeteries, the great credit due to the work of the Imperial War Graves
Commission gardeners.
Those who had no graves to see were comforted in being able to discover the
names of their missing" relatives on the Menin Gate, Tyne Cot, and Hyde Park
Corner (Ploegsteert) Memorials.

PILGRIMS AT YPRES.
The pilgrims made their return journey on July 8th, with a general expression
of gratitude for the comfort and consolation the visit had given them, and the
monotonous train journey from Ypres to Ostend was relieved by the singing of all
the war-time songs, in which the Belgian passengers patriotically joined.
A few hours' walk round Ostend sea front and shops was pleasant, and also
gave time to eat the packet lunches supplied by the Hotel Splendid and Britannique.
On arrival at London at 9 p.m. the pilgrims proceeded hastily to their hotels,
in order to prepare for long journeys home on the following day.
