Inauguration Dinner of the Ypres League in New York. THE YPRES TIMES 209 The dinner at which Major-General J. F. O'Ryan presided on March 19th at the Hotel Roosevelt was a brilliant function, most of the officers wearing uniform. Music was furnished by the 18th Infantry Band. Standards of the American, Belgian, French and British nations were borne by colour bearers from the 107th Infantry National Guard Regiment of New York. Impressive speeches were delivered by Major-General Hanson E. Ely, com manding the II Corps Area; Bishop William T. Manning, Brig.-General Cary F. Spence, of Knoxville, Tennes see, Col. Maurice Fitzmaurice Day, Military Attaché, British Embassy; Viscount de Lantsheere, Charge d'Affairs, Belgian Embassy; Major Emanuel Lombard, Military Attaché, French Embassy; and Capt. R. Hender son-Bland, representative of the Ypres League. members in Brooklyn, New York, for many years. His recruiting of new members from the 105th Regiment, U.S. Infantry, who served in the Ypres Sector, still continues with vigour, and he deserves our sincere gratitude for the loyal support which has been im mensely appreciated and valued since 1922. Owing to the sterling work of our influential promoters, the interest in our Association is growing rapidly in America, and large numbers of Ameri can Comrades who fought at Ypres are being welcomed as members of the Ypres League. The special thanks of Headquarters are due to Major-General J. F. O'Ryan, Major-General Edward M. Lewis, Major-General George W. Read, Col. Edward Olmsted, Col. George W. Burleigh, Col. Franklyn Q. Brown, and to our indefatigable repre sentative, Capt. R. H. Henderson- Bland. We would also like to place on record the great individual work of Capt. Henry Maslin, who has been estab lished as one of our corresponding Photo] [Pack Bros., N.Y. CAPTAIN R. H. HENDERSON-BLAND. Through Captain Henderson-Bland, Field Marshal Viscount Plumer requested Major- General J. F. O'Ryan, whose 27th Division served with Lord Plumer's 2nd Army in the Ypres Salient, to inaugurate the Ypres League in America. The inauguration has been an outstanding success, and we offer Captain Bland our heartiest congratulations.
