SMOKING CONCERT
220
THE YPRES TIMES
LONDON COUNTY COMMITTEE.
The Informal Gatherings for the season have
now closed, and we look back on a very successful
year. The Committee extend their very grate
ful thanks to the many friends who have given
such valuable help. All names need not be
mentioned, but the Hon. Secretary desires to
convey his personal thanks to these friends.
Mrs. Heap gave an excellent programme at the
March gathering, and in April Mr. E. G. Holmes
provided the entertainment rendered by Mr.
Foster and friends. At the June Informal we
had pleasure to welcome the Royal Field
Artillery Old Comrades Association, and trust
that we may have the opportunity of seeing
them again.
Next season's meetings will open in September
under new arrangements, and full particulars
will be sent with the usual notices.
Should any member feel disposed to take
charge of a programme for one of the evenings,
kindly communicate with the Hon. Secretary,
and an invitation will be forwarded to any
friend on being supplied with name and address.
A Dance was held at the headquarters of the
Royal Fusiliers at Handel Street, W.C. i, on
Thursday, April 16th, but we should like to
have seen more members present.
There are still vacancies for the August Bank
Holiday Pilgrimage to Ypres. Particulars will
be forwarded to anyone interested.
The Hon. Secretary of the London County
Committee had pleasure to visit Ypres for the
anniversary of the Battle of Messines, and made
friends with some ex-service men, whotwe may
hope to have the privilege to welcome as new
members in the near future.
After visiting the many cemeteries, and fully
realizing the meaning of the Ypres Salient, one
comes back resolved to do all that is possible
to make the lives of others happier and try to
extend the spirit of comradeship for which the
League stands.
It has been suggested and agreed that the
London County Committee should possess an
album containing photographs of the Ypres
Salient taken by members and friends, and the
Hon. Secretary would be very grateful to receive
any snaps that can be spared. The album will
be on view for the interest of those attending
the Informal Gatherings.
May we again urge our London members that
we need one hundred new recruits before Decem
ber 31st. Up to the present we have not done
enough, so we call for bigger efforts in support
of recruiting.
PURLEY BRANCH.
Competition for First Wipers Cup.
A Bogey Competition (18 holes under handi
cap) for the First Wipers Cup was held at Wood-
cote Park Golf Club, Coulsdon, on Thursday,
May 28th, when thirty members of the Branch
competed.
The winner was Major L. W. Alderson, with
a return of all square. Lieut. A. D. Duncan
and Major Graham Carr tied for second place
with a return of one down.
Twenty-five of the members remained to
supper and spent a most enjoyable evening.
The Chairman for the year, Captain E. Feather-
stone, presented the cup to the winner at the
conclusion of proceedings.
All the members present were most anxious
that the committee should arrange further
meetings as soon as possible.
PLEASE BOOK THIS DATE.
