86 THE YPRES TIMES into the fury of an attack. Now we were with the Lewis guns, the trench mortars, the field batteries and the siege howitzers. Mount Kemmel, Hill 60, Zonnebeke, Ploegsteert, Hooge, Sanctuary Woodwe were there again, so aptly and vividly did General Swiny take us back through those four years, and it was a surprise to many people that anyone could relate such a veritable avalanche of chronological events in so interesting a manner in a little more than an hour. The inevitable war-time choruses brought a most instructive and interesting evening to a close, and if you were there you will surely come to the second of this new series of Informal gatherings. If you were not able to be present then do not fail, on any account, to come to the next. During the evening a message of loyalty was sent to our Patron-in-Chief, His Majesty the King, and the following reply was received: Please convey to members of the Ypres League assembled at West minster this evening His Majesty's sincere thanks for their loyal message. Equerky." A message was also sent to our President, F.-M. Viscount Plumer, and his reply was as follows Very many thanks to the members of the Ypres League for the kind message. I appreciate it greatly.Plumer." The Annual Empire Day Parade, organized by the League of the Empire was held on May 28th in Hyde Park, when the salute was taken by Prince Arthur of Connaught, and F.-M. Lord Allenby commanded the Parade. The procession was led by the Navy League, followed by the Royal Hospital School, Greenwich, and about twenty different contingents. In the rear were detachments of the Legion of Frontiersmen, The Ypres League and Old Contemptibles. The following telegram was sent to His Majesty the King: In the name of all the Associations and Contingents of uniformed bodies taking part in the League of the Empire Parade in Hyde Park to-day I send your Majesties the expression of most loyal devotion.Arthur." During the afternoon the following reply was received I have received with much pleasure the loyal message you have sent to the Queen and myself on behalf of the Associations and Contingents of uniformed bodies assembled in the League of Empire Parade at Hyde Park to-day. In thanking them, I wish every success to the League.George R.I." A. R. F.
