THE YPRES TIMES
89
We .enjoyed a very welcome surprise this
month in a visit from Capt. R. Henderson-Bland,
our indefatigable representative in America.
He has presented Headquarters with a mag
nificent panorama photograph of the Inaugura
tion Dinner of the New York Branch of the
Ypres League, which we shall treasure very
much indeed.
Capt. Bland emphasizes the keen interest
taken in the Ypres League by our American com
rades and gives his assurance that this interest
will continue to grow in spite of the depression
through which America is passing at the present
time.
We are particularly indebted to the following
Capt. J. Wilkinson, who has taken such a vast
amount of trouble in the selection of six poor
mothers who accompanied our free pilgrimage
to YpresMajorGraham Carr, who has
mustered a goodly number of new members
during the last six months, as well as organizing
a battle for the 3rd Wipers Cup Golf
Competition at Purley Mr. J. Boughey, Hon.
Secretary of our London County Committee,
although perhaps not so prominent as Major
Graham Carr in the recruiting department,
deserves hearty congratulations on the great
success of the Annual Reunion Dinner and
London Informal Gatherings, all thoroughly
enjoyed by those privileged to take part.
The Easter and Whitsuntide Pilgrimages were
run under better weather conditions than ex
perienced last year, and pleasant times were
spent in revisiting old battle haunts.
Our next pilgrimages are being organized in
connection with the Unveiling of the Arras and
Thiepval Memorials on July 31st and August 1st
respectively, and the August Bank Holiday
Pilgrimage to Ypres.
We would like to express our renewed thanks
to our Branch Secretaries, Corresponding Mem
bers and friends for the extraordinarily fine
publicity we have received from them in respect
of our travel, and hope that it may be possible
to continue this valuable publicity during the
summer months whenever the occasion presents
itself. We conclude with all good wishes and
a great many thanks.
FREE PILGRIMAGE.
This year, the Committee of the Ypres League
decided to allocate, for the first time, two
vacancies to the Southern Daily Echo," which
were very gratefully accepted, and as a result,
Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. E. Doe were nominated as
the most deserving cases from the many applica
tions received to join our free pilgrimage of poor
mothers to Ypres on June 4th, in order to visit
the graves of their late husbands.
We would like to record our sincere thanks to
Capt. A. E. Jones, M.C., Editor of the Southern
Daily Echo," for his valued co-operation in
accomplishing the difficult task of selection so
successfully.

THE YPRES TIMES."
With reference to our appeal, in the last two
editions of the Journal, for financial help with
a view to establishing an Ypres Times
Maintenance Fund, we take this opportunity
to record our most sincere thanks to our members
and friends who have generously sent donations
during the past quarter.
(Letters received, all stress on the popularity
of the Journal and necessity for its continuance,
and so we look forward with confidence to the
steady growth of the Fund.
All contributions, no matter how small, will
be very gratefully received, and should be
addressed to The Secretary, "Ypres Times"
