Great assistance had been rendered during the
early summer to our independent and party
travel as the result of the valuable publicity
given in the local Press through the kindness of
our Branch Secretaries and Corresponding
Members. We thank them sincerely, and hope
that we may be favoured with a repetition of
their generosity in 1933.
Recruiting Competition.
During the year we have watched with the
greatest of interest a higher enthusiasm in com
peting for the two coveted prizes of £5. Again
Purley is top of the Branches with 42 recruits,
won by a narrower margin than last year, and we
wish to congratulate Bombardier E. A. R.
Burden, Major Graham Carr, and Committee on
their well-deserved victory, and on the Branch
activities throughout the year comprising a
reunion dinner, golf competitions, and Armistice
Day parade, all of which have been great
successes.
The £5 prize to a member or corresponding
member has been awarded to Mr. G. Graham S.
Grundy, of Headingley, Leeds, who has
accounted for 18 recruits. Hearty congratula
tion to Mr. Grundy for his magnificent individual
effort.
Our London County Committee, under the
honorary secretaryship of Mr. J. Boughey, are
highly commended on their recruiting efforts in
1932, and the work put into the organization of
the monthly Informal Gatherings is com
pensated by the fact that the meetings are so
well patronized, and the Committee are to be
congratulated on the success of the annual dinner
and dance held last April under the chairmanship
of General Sir William Heneker, K.C.B.

League's Representatives.
The following gentlemen have prominently
figured in the year's work Messrs. C. J. and W.
Parminter, at Ypres Captain Stuart Oswald, at
Amiens and Mr. P. Vyner, at Arras. They have
all done exceptionally valuable services in
connection with our tours of the battlefields, and
we thank them heartily, and last but not least,
our representative in America, Captain R.
Henderson-Bland, now on a visit to his home in
London, but in spite of his busy life he has found
time to write some brilliant articles for the
Ypres Times, his practical co-operation and
forethought for the well-being of the Ypres
League is indeed inspiring, and his cheery visits
to headquarters are always immensely welcome.
We would like to place on record our grateful
thanks to Captain Bland for his unfailing interest
and support which we are privileged to enjoy.
Space will not permit a longer letter, so we
conclude with our renewed good wishes for 1933
and trust that the New Year will bring you much
happiness and success in all your interests.
VOTES OF THANKS.
We cannot allow this edition of The Ypres
Times to go to press without conveying our
sincere thanks to a staunch member, Mr. J.
Brunskill, of Monkseaton, Northumberland, for
the exceptional kindness he has shown during
1932 in giving such valuable publicity in the
Matters Military column of the Newcastle
Journal, in support of the League's member
ship, travel and other activities. We can assure
him that his kindness has proved an immense
help.
On November 7th an exceedingly interesting
and highly successful lantern lecture on the
Ypres Salient, by Captain H. D. Peabody,
D.C.M., was held at the St. Andrew's Hall, West
Kensington, and organized by the individual
effort of Mr. C. J. H. Cope, one of our most loyal
London members. At the conclusion of the
evening a collection for the Ypres League
realized £2 17s. 3d.
Mr. Cope has again proved what individual
initiative can accomplish for the good cause of
our Association, and we would like to express to-
him our renewed and sincere gratitude.
