YPRES BRITISH SCHOOL
THE YPRES TIMES
171
THE following will be unveiled by the Bishop of London at the Ypres British Church
on Sunday, June 4th.
(1) Lord Plumer's Banner, subscribed for and presented by members of the
Ypres League. It will be hung on the south side opposite the 5th
Division Banner.
(2) The beautiful Memorial Brass given by Lady Plumer and the Ypres Settle
ment Fund, to be placed in the Chancel.
WARRIOR'S CHAPEL.
This Memorial and the furniture thereof will be completed at an early date, and an
announcement through the Press made in due course.
ETON MEMORIAL.
The Memorial in the Cloisters at Eton will be unveiled on Messines Day (Wednesday,
June 7th) by H.R.H. The Duke of Gloucester, himself an old Etonian.
MR. and Mrs. Morris complete their four years of office on March 31st, and will
be succeeded by Mr. and Mrs. Allen, also kindly lent by the London County
Council.
It is not possible to express here all our good wishes for the future of Mr. and Mrs.
Morris on their return to England.
Everyone with any knowledge of Ypres will realize the benefits the children in the
Ypres Salient have received from them, not only educationally, but in home life and,
better still, in preparing them for employment in the Mother Country when their school
education has been completed.
It seems scarcely credible that when the Morrises first went to Ypres four years
ago, not half a dozen of the children understood English properly now all do. They
started the school with 48 children and they leave it with 112, 90 per cent, of the children
attending belonging to the men tending the cemeteries. I understand Mr. Morris is
desirous of becoming an Assistant Inspector of Schools, and I sincerely hope he will
be successful in his ambition.
The prizes will be given away in the School on Whit-Monday by the Bishop of
London.
H.R.H. The Duchess of York has presented a photograph of Princess Elizabeth
and Princess Margaret to be hung in the School.
W. P. PULTENEY,
Lieut.-General.
N.B.We feel sure that many of our members who so generously subscribed towards
the Memorial Banner to Lord Plumer will desire to be present at the dedication ceremony
and, in connection with this special service, the League's travel facilities are placed at
the disposal of all interested.
Applications for prospectuses by the day routes (Ostend or Boulogne) and night
route (Dunkerque) should be made as early as possible to the Secretary, Ypres League,
20, Orchard Street, London, W.i.
