Ypres Times 55 Maintenance Fund
1933 Recruiting Competition
THE YPRES TIMES
175
CONTRIBUTIONS continue to be received under this heading, and we are happy
to report that as a result of a recent donation from one of our staunch supporters
in India, the grand total generously subscribed by members in response to the
appeal of September, 1931, has reached £500. It was reported in the last edition of
The Ypres Times that £200 had been already placed on deposit, to which a further
sum of 100 had been added.
For an organization of our dimensions, and in view of the depressing conditions
through which we have all been passing, the result of the appeal to date is a fine achieve
ment, and only to the sacrifice and loyalty of every one of those members who have
so generously responded can we attribute the very life of the popular little Journal in
its present standard to-day. /j
As an adequate testimony to the fact that even time does not efface the memory
of those who suffered and endured the agonies of the war years, 1914-1918, we would
refer to the many scores of letters that have been received from all parts of the world
telling of the eagerness with which The Ypres Times is sought, and hoping for its
continuance. Some of these letters have been printed from time to time in the League's
Journal, but we should be pleased for any members so interested to view them at the
Head Office at any time they are good enough to call.
We look forward to seeing many more kind contributions before it can be safely
said that the Ypres Times has been placed on a permanent footing, and with this in
view we earnestly hope that those members who have not so far felt in a position to
contribute will bear us in mind in the near future, when we sincerely trust that condi
tions both for our members and the League will have materially improved.
Donations should be addressed to the Secretary, Ypres League, 20, Orchard Street,
London, W.i., and envelopes should be marked on left-hand corner, "Ypres Times Fund."
IN view of the popularity and immense success of the past two recruiting competitions,
and in order to give recently-formed branches an opportunity to compete, we have
great pleasure to announce that A FURTHER PRIZE OF £5 will be awarded this
year as follows
TO THE BRANCH RECRUITING THE GREATEST NUMBER OF NEW MEMBERS
IN 1933.
All membership forms completed must be received at Headquarters bearing on
the top left-hand corner the name of the branch responsible for the recruitment.
We shall watch with interest this latest challenge to the proud position now enjoyed
by the hitherto all-conquering Purley Branch.
