The Annual Children's Party, organized by the London County Committee of the Ypres League, was held this year on January 14th last, and as in former years, proved an immense success. Thanks to the generosity of the Governors of the Westminster City School, their large hall was again placed at our disposal for the occasion which was transformed into a riot of colour by the many willing enthusiasts working a little overtime the night previously. The earlier arrivals among the youngsters lost no time in making full use of the amount of space at their disposal, and very soon were indulging in all manner of games, many of which had certainly not been allowed for in the original programme. It was good to watch these radiantly happy children, and as the hour for tea approached the building could have been easily located at some distance by the hilarious shouting and laughter of some 140 of these youngsters. Tea was launched by the volunteer assistants (now working at top pressure) and was followed by more games and music. The latter was supplied by the Enfield Orchestral Society, kindly provided by Mrs. Peabody, and was thoroughly appreciated by all present. For over an hour the entertainer amused and mystified his young and keenly interested audience with his amazingly clever conjuring, ventriloquism and silhouette throwing, and to end a most happy evening, Father Christmas parked his reindeer outfit near Victoria Station and, assisted by Harlequin, who had for the moment forgotten his Columbine, distributed the gifts from a heavily-laden Christmas Tree. Cordial thanks are extended to Mrs. Peabody, and Mr. Don Craggs for providing the splendid musical and entertainment items, to Captain H. D. Peabody for generous services once again in the arduous role of Father Christmas, and last but not least, to the many willing helpers who so kindly gave their valuable time and services and to whom the great success of the function was largely due. of the will take place on at the W.C.2, at 7 p.m. The business will be to receive the Report of the London County Committee for the past year and to elect the Committee for the ensuing year.
