There was a large attendance at the service held in the British Embassy Church of St. George, Madrid, on Friday, November nth, in memory of those who fell in the Great War. H.E. Sir George Grahame, G.C.V.O., K.C.M.G., and members of the British Embassy, and H.E. the Hon. Irwin Laughlin and members of the American Embassy were present. The Rev. H. B. Firth, Chaplain, conducted the service. Immediately after the two minutes' silence, Mr. E. D. Van Tubergen, representing American ex-servicemen, and Mr. H. M. F. Stow, representing British ex-servicemen, each placed on the altar a wreath bearing the respec tive national colours, the British wreath also having the Ypres colours and a card with the following inscription to the glory of god and in memory of 250,000 british soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of their country in the ypres salient 1914-1918 ypres league On Saturday, November 12th, a large and brilliant gathering of British and American ex-service men and their families were present at the Dinner held at the Hotel Nacional, Madrid, to celebrate the anniversary of the Armistice. Mr. Baron and Mr. Blanc, President and Secretary respectively of the Cercle Francais were guests of the evening. Colonel J. P. G. Worlledge, O.B.E., presided and proposed the toast to the President of the United States of America and the President of the Spanish Republic. Mr. Van Tubergen replied by toasting The King." After dinner, H.E. Sir George Grahame, the British Ambassador, came to the dance, which lasted until the small hours of the morning.
