PICTURESQUE OPEN-AIR CEREMONIAL.
ON the morning of Monday, June 4th, in brilliant sunshine, the Bishop of
London presented the prizes to the successful scholars attending the British
School at Ypres.
It was a typical day culled out of Flaming June," and very wisely the
decision was made to hold the picturesque and pleasing little ceremonial out of
doors in the school playground. Nevertheless, although a cooling breeze tempered
the extreme heat and fluttered the folds of the Union Jack overhead, the sun's
rays beat fiercely on the asphalted pavement. This prompted the Bishop, with
characteristic thoughtfulness, to make the request that the youngsters should be
brought in the shade under the eastern wall.
There was a goodly company present, which included many proud parents
and members of the British community in Ypres. Amongst others 1 noticed
General Sir Charles Harington, the Dowager Viscountess Plumer, who was
accompanied by her two daughters, the Bishop of Fulham (North and Central
Europe) Col. Higginson (representing the Imperial War Graves Commission),
Col. F. G. Poole, Mrs. L. K. Briggs and Miss Briggs, the Rev. G. R. and Mrs.
Milner, Mr. and Mrs. Morris (who were visiting the scene of their former labours),
