THE YPRES TIMES
Informal Gatherings
Children's Christmas Party

LONDON COUNTY COMMITTEE.
Informal Gatherings.
A new session opened in September last
with an impromptu programme given by
members. On October 19th, we owed much
gratitude to Mr. Dawes who delivered a most
interesting lantern lecture on "Comradeship
during the Great War," France, Salonika, and
Palestine, and we trust that he may favour
us with another lecture on some future date.
In November our indebtedness went to Cap
tain H. D. Peabody, D.C.M., who generously
arranged to show the film "The Battle of the
Somme," which was followed keenly by the
ex-service members. On December 21st, we
mustered a record attendance and thoroughly
enjoyed a thrilling programme of splendid
variety provided by Mr. Mears of head
quarters. All the artistes deserved the high
est praise. We extend our grateful thanks
to Mr. Mears and hope that he will see his
way to arrange another entertainment for us
next year. During the evening, a competition
resulted in two lucky persons present taking
away with them a turkey each which we trust
they enjoyed, and another lucky recipient was
reminded of his army days by winning a tin
of bully beef and two extra thick army
biscuits.
We regret the temporary absence from the
Informals of our friends, Captain Alliston
and Mr. Thrussell who have been in ill
health, but we wish them both a speedy
recovery.
The forthcoming fixtures will be found on
this page, and we look forward to whole
hearted support from our members and
friends so as to ensure the continuance of
these record attendances.
Please book these dates in your Diary.
