54 THE YPRES TIMES 25/2/34. I, as a Life Member, wish to be associated with the excellent suggestion put forward by Mr. E. F. Williams in your current issue, and enclose a postal order for 12/- representing 10/- to cover the past five years, and 2/- in advance for the next four editions. E. A. M. (Gravesend). 25/1/34. Mr. E. F. Williams' example in paying 6d. a copy for the Ypres Times seems a sound one to follow under the circumstances. I therefore enclose a P.O. for 2/- advance payment for my copies for the current year of which I already possess the January number. Trusting other mem bers of the League will follow suit. Mrs. E. S. (Belmont). 15/1/34. Having read Mr. E. F. Williams' letter in the January Ypres Times, I should like to say that I am entirely in accord with his suggestion that a charge of 3d. or 6d. per copy should be made in future. Since the death of my son, 2nd Lieut. D. G. W. Hewitt, V.C., Hampshire Regt., at St. Julien in 1917, I have visited Ypres several times and will always take a special interest in the town and its surroundings. The Ypres Times is practically the only means of information to many, who, like myself are no longer able to go there often, but who will always be keenly interested in the place and its future welfare. It would indeed be a matter of regret were one deprived of the various items of news which the excellent little quarterly contains. I enclose 2/- to pay for my own copy for 1934. Mrs. E. M. H. (Winchester). 22/1/34. I think that the suggestion of Mr. E. F. Williams of New Brighton is an excellent idea and I have therefore very much pleasure in enclosing a postal order for 2/6 for my "four Times of the current year. I trust that many members will fall into line in a similar way and thus help to make our financial world a little more stable than it lias been in the past. I shall hope to send you a P.O. for this amount each succeeding year and wishing the League all prosperity in this New Year. Capt. L. B. (Penrhos Bay). 20/1/34. I think 3d. per copy in future is a good suggestion on the part of one of your correspondents, so in future when I send my yearly subscription I will try and bear that in mind. G. A. B. (Bp. Auckland). 27/1/34. I should like to inform you of the great pleasure I derived from this quarter's Ypres Times, I am sure that the letter of Mr. Williams will not go unheededa splendid suggestion and I enclose a small donation, wishing I could make it more, but I have been saving up to join your trip to Ypres at Easter, and being a son of the soilit has been hard work. Wishing you all success. H. W. D. (Reading). 16/1/34. Many thanks for my copy of the Ypres Times. May I congratulate you on another very interesting issue this quarter. I have read with much interest the letter from Mr. Williams and his suggestion which I think splendid. I beg to hand you the sum of 2/6 as my contribu tion for 1934 and hope that many members will fall in with the suggestion. I only wish that the journal was a monthly one instead of quarterly. F. W. S. (London, N.19). On February 16th last we were reminded again of the loyalty and strength of our Purley Branch in the form of a cheque for £5 from the Branch Funds contri buted as a mark of appreciation of the Ypres Times, and almost before we had time to adequately convey our sincere appreciation of this noble gesture we have been brought nearer still to the gold standard by a further gift of £20 to the Ypres Times Maintenance Fund handsomely subscribed among those faithful Purley stalwarts at their Annual Re-Union Dinner on March 2nd. We would like also to record our grateful thanks to Mrs. L. K. Briggs, our Corresponding Member for Broadstairs, for so kindly coming again to the rescue with a most generous donation of £5. N.B.It is a very great encouragement to Headquarters to feel that the Ypres Times is worthy of such staunch support. Adequate gratitude cannot be measured in terms, but expressing our most sincere thanks to all our faithful donors we can assure them that their encouragement has thrown a welcome ray of light on the efforts which we are making for the continuity of the Ypres Times.
